I received the Kindle as a gift and it is so convenient! I thought I wouldn't be used to reading off the device as I am so used to reading paper books but the ink print makes reading comfortable on the eyes. I didn't have any issues for reading on it for hours on end. Battery life is amazing and ebooks are good value! Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Review

The Unit is amazing! Battery life at least a week depending on use. I love getting my paper delivered right to the unit and reading any book I have. I like also that when I upgraded to a new unit Amazon saves all my purchased for re-download! I do not have to back them up, just other purchases that I make from other sites. The display does not make your eyes tired which is great.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Top Quality

I love my Kindle and enjoy it fully. The "BUT" is in the availability and price of new books. Authors and publishers might want to wake up. $9.99 seems fair for any book that does not have to be published or distributed in bound copies. Plus few Kindle readers are going to lend out their device for others to read a book. Now with bound copies the fact is that most books are passed around from person to person which avoids profit for the publishers and royalties for the writers. If I have to wait for new releases I am going to go to the library or buy a deeply discounted copy. I would most likely buy 10 times more electronic books if the price was $9.99 and I could get new books as they are released. If anyone remembers $9.99 is the price for most books in the beginning. Remember we, the Kindle readers, paid close to $500.00 for this device to start with. Honest profit is good. Greed is short sighted.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation This instant

I'm delighted with this Kindle, but here are some practical problems for users outside the US:
-The power adaptor is American. It accepts 220 volts, but you need a converter.
-Operating system, manual and dictionary is English only, if you have problems with that, wait till they prepare a multi- lingual version
-Text-to-speech, which reads the text aloud to you, is American English only.
-Newspaper subscriptions deliver text-only version to international users. I can do without colours, but miss the photos and graphics.
-Google and Internet does not work outside the US. You do, however, get access to Wikipedia, English version.
With these minor adjustments this is a magnificent global reading device. Whispernet delivers your newspaper wherever you are (as long as you are within mobile telephone coverage)Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

The Kindle does not fit well into the cover and as a result the cover has slit the case on the Kindle thus making if look ugly and damaged. It is because i had to struggle to get the Kindle to fit the lugs on the cover.

A brilliant product that delivers and i am reaading and understanding more everyday of wht it can do for me. Amazing how it opens so many doors in relation the books from the classics to whatever you fancy with out having to traverse a bookshop and be disappointed because the books are not in stock. This device is keeping me sane on my train trips to and from work. I love the flexibility of buying books on the go. The only fault I have is that not all the books I want are available on it either by not being in the format or due to copyright restrictions. I bought my kindle for travel, but I find that I want to us it for all my reading. I got the wireless but I'm not sure it is really necessary. I'm not interested in newspapers or magazines, so I tend to download things from my desk top anyway. I do love the big screen. There are two downsides. There is no zoom. I could really use it for some pdf files I have downloaded. And it is a little bit heavy. I am happy to not have to go to the library every 3 weeks and can download lots of books for free or only a few cents. I don't like current authors much so I find a lot of my favorties available for free. Just wish my local e-library would download to Kindle.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Right now

After a several week long get-acquainted period, I've decided I like the Kindle DX. Because I'm enjoying using it, I'm feeling generous towards its flaws, accepting them as inherent in owning an early version of a device.

I like owning a reading device that holds a lot of material, doesn't weigh much and doesn't glow at me. I find the display quite readable. I also like the large screen real estate of the DX, although in fairness I haven't tried a smaller reader. I subscribed to Le Monde while in vacation in rural Wisconsin and enjoyed having the paper delivered right to my device.

Recharging the device and managing the contents is quite simple. The screen savers are charming and the built-in dictionary encourages me to stop and look up words instead of skipping over them. (Today's new word: dun.)

The interface is downright retro. The little navigation button is usable though not especially ergonomic, the Chiclet keyboard is a few design iterations short of usability, and it's absurd that there are no folders for organizing books and documents.

It's good for sequential reading--I plowed through half of a Philip Kerr novel yesterday with no discomfort. I have yet to fully try it out as a reference device, where the menus and navigation interface come more into play.

It's frighteningly easy to buy books: buy with one click and it turns up on your Kindle! Very nice.

I agree with previous reviews that mention its PDF shortcomings (no links, no font changes.) I'm really looking forward to improved PDF support.

The price tag is steep for what it is, and that put me off purchasing it for a while, but now that the money is spent I don't regret it. I'm advising my friends to go for a cheaper device or wait for a price drop, however. I don't like that the file format is entirely proprietary and am liable to be lured away by a more interoperable, open-standard device in the future.

Lowest Price Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I was really unsure if I would like an e-book reader. I love books, especially the feel of them, and was unsure if the expense of an e-reader was worth it. It is, on several levels. (1) very comfortable to read in most lighting conditions. The default text size is perfect for me, and one size larger is great for low light conditions. I do find myself shifting it around in my hands after reading awhile, but that is due, I think, more to the size than the weight (I use the Amazon leather cover with it). (2) the Kindle store has a lot of older books I've never read or been able to find in hard copy, and most are free or very low priced. I've downloaded old science fiction and many old classics. Prices for more recent releases seem reasonable, and I will definitely buy new releases for my favorite authors instead of waiting for the paperback to come out. It would be nice to see more sub-categories in the book sections to make browsing easier. (3) When I travel, it's nice to have a large set of books to choose from, depending upon my mood.

The "experimental" web browsing is OK but slow. As the pages are generally text-based, it can take some time to get to where you want, and navigation back and forth doesn't always go where you thought you were. I haven't tried the newspaper or magazine subscriptions yet.

The book tagging features work well, and navigation within most books is easy. Most page turns take about 0.3 to 0.5 seconds; only very busy pages with heavy graphcs seem to take longer (up to a second). I don't see that as a problem with most books. I do find myself placing the Kindle in sleep mode often just to see what screensaver comes up next, many are quite interesting.

I have had this Kindle for a month and it is still working off the same initial battery charge (presently about 50%). I do not leave the whispernet connection on when done; I've been reading wkith this device for about an hour or so per day and have been on-line about 2 hours total. Hopefully the battery will keep up this performance for some time.

Overall, I would give the Kindle a 5-rating for hardware and a 4.5-rating for software/store. I suspect I will still reach for the hard copy book first, but this e-book reader will definitely be with me for some time.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Low Price Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

As an avid reader, I have an abhorrence for reading on screens. It's so hard on the eyes that the thought of it is repellent to me. When e-readers first started to emerge on the market, I gave them a wide berth because I could not believe that reading one wouldn't be analogous to reading on a computer screen. I was very curious about the Kindle, however, and when a friend purchased one and talked about how much she liked it, I began to take more of an interest in the devices. I was thrilled when my local library announced that they would be loaning out Kindles for a week at a time and, after waiting my turn on the long, long list, I spent a week with the library Kindle. As soon as I picked it up and started using it, I was more or less hooked and instantly intent on buying one.

Whenever I talk to friends and family, I can't say enough good things about e-ink. I still can't believe how close to a printed page it is. I can and do read my Kindle for hours on end without any more fatigue than I would feel after spending hours with a printed book. Reading on a Kindle is nothing like reading on a computer screen.

The only real downside to the DX is that it is big and a little unwieldy at times. I've found that having a really good cover (such as the M-Edge leather DX jacket that I purchased along with my Kindle, which can also function as a sort of easel) helps. I also prefer to balance the Kindle on a pillow on my lap when reading. All things considered, though, I don't find holding the DX any more fatiguing than trying to hold open a really long standard-sized paperbacks or juggling one of those gigantic trade paperbacks. In fact, the Kindle eliminates the hand cramps that come with holding a book one-handed. I do wish, though, that the buttons were on both side of the Kindle. Though I'm right-handed, there are times when using left-hand buttons would be more convenient for me. This is a minor flaw in the design, in my opinion.

The other advantage my Kindle has over a printed book is that it fits nicely on the ledge of my elliptical, which means I can read it while doing my workout. This is a big plus for me as I prefer reading to watching TV while exercising, and I'd rather read books than the magazines that I'm usually stuck reading, due to the space constraints on the elliptical ledge. I also find the print in the Kindle easier to read than the print in a magazine.

My one serious disappointment with the Kindle is the pricing of magazines and newspapers. I have a subscription to Time magazine and was very interested in switching to the Kindle version--until I discovered the price difference, that is. It makes little sense to me that the printed version, which involves more overhead, not to mention the shipping, is far less expensive than the Kindle version. I was also considering subscribing to the New York Times via my Kindle but, again, I found the price cost prohibitive and decided against it. I think magazine and newspaper publishers need to find a better price structure for devices like the Kindle.

I'll soon be taking a trip, and I'm very much looking forward to traveling with the Kindle. It will be extremely convenient for me to be able to simply pack my Kindle rather than having to haul several paperbacks. The convenience is one of the best things about the Kindle. I take books with me to the park to read while my kids are playing, I take them with me to the doctor's office while I sit in the waiting room, etc. One of my biggest pet peeves was having to carry two books when I was almost finished with one. Now, my books are handily located all right on my Kindle.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Save Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

i have replaced this item FOUR times in 9 months: it has three electrically related failures and one failure associated with Amazon's 50 dollar cover, which caused the facing to delaminate from the base.

the electronic failures:
two instances of electronic ink failing to properly redistribute so that the type was difficult to read;
one instance of the screen duplicating the first half of the page on the lower portion of the unit.

additional irks include:
a habit of resorting to automatic rotation despite setting the unit to manual rotation. the automatic rotation works nominally and without reliability.
the units freeze and most be reset, roughly bi-weekly.
various type fonts are not supported, so the unit will portray a given letter with some obscure, unreadable replacement. somewhat resembling a cartoon character's cursing--which i also resemble, now that i think on it, using this device.

i could go on, but i won't. i can only emphasize that i regret this purchase whole-heartedly. i am concerned what will be the upshot when my warranty runs out: i certainly will not replace this device, and i have spent (much less than i intended) money on a kindle library that will be useless to me.

i seriously advise prospective buyers to investigate the reliability of these units very carefully. once the technological moxie of the device dissipates, there isn't much reason to waste money on it. i assume they are of chinese manufacture, and that says all you need to know, doesn't it???

A VERY DISAPPOINTED BUYER!

I love the NY Times, but I hate the waste of paper and the plastic bags it is delivered in. I've been considering the Kindle since the larger version was introduced but was concerned that giving up the paper would be difficult.

Turns out, the first time I read the Times on the Kindle I was hooked and no longer even look at he paper version. The Times on the Kindle is easier to read. I find I can read it faster and I find the search and dictionary features very useful.

I also have subscribed to blogs and magazines and have bought one book in the three weeks I've had the Kindle. I have also found the PDF reading feature greatly useful. I transferred the Calif Primary Election Voter Guide to the Kindle. Technical manuals or your own creation can be transferred.

A few negatives: It is a bit sluggish going from page to page. Some buttons don't always work, but overall I'm very happy with it and have entered a new reading realm.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Cheapest Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I'm a believer! WOW!- I did not like it at first. It was heavy, It was hard to hold, It was hard to read, and its buttons did not always work. These were the reasons I used as I requested to return my Kindle DX a few days after the purchase. Thank goodness I'm lazy. I am an avid 60 year old reader with only one eye remaining. And my only eye was betraying me too. I had double vision, I had dry eye, I had blurriness, and I could only read for about 10 minutes at a time before my vision got so bad I could not read at all. And then came my Kindle DX. At first it seemed hard to use but it was only different to use, not difficult. I had to learn how to hold it because it is not a book. Then I had to learn how to use the buttons because they were different too. And last I needed to learn how to adjust the font and Suddenly I entered Nirvana. I can read for hours and my eye never quits on me any more. The buttons work fine once I slowed down and let them have time to work. I was so involved with my reading that I could not turn the pages fast enough. And my last reason not to like the Kindle disappeared when I held it where It was comfortable and realized it has a different feel than a book. My Kindle has changed my world. It has reopened the world of the written word and brightened up my life. It is the best purchase I have made that I can even remember. The larger size of the DX is a real plus. I can enlarge the font so that it is easy for me to see and read, and still have enough words on the page to not look odd. The percent read instead of page numbers was a bit odd at first, but that too has passed. Being able to highlight spots and make bookmarks make this retired special education teacher feel right at home. These features make it easy to gather information from all over a book or even from many books into one spot and then I can use this information when I argue plots or an authors deeper meaning with my daughter. I went on vacation and I was able to take along a large reading pile with no loss of space. I even had translators at my fingertips. Yes I'm a believer now! The Kindle DX is a magic box to me and I would give it 1000 stars, if I could.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Cheap Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

My main reason for upgrading from the Kindle 1 to a Kindle DX was for PDF support. I must say that the implementation for PDF support is dismal. Searching your library results in no hits on your PDF content. The contents page of a PDF is useless. It seems that Amazon was simply in a hurry to tick off a "yeah, we can do that" box on the functionality list. Also, what ever happened to RTF support? Never made it, I guess.

And really, you would think by now Amazon would get it through their heads that WE WANT FOLDERS! Come on guys, how bloody difficult can that be? Have you guys simply stopped listening to your clients?

I was going back and forth iPad vs. Kindle. I chose Kindle, and now have pangs of regret.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Buying Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

Pros: great screen, really looks like paper, I enjoyed reading on it. It is roomy, plenty of potential. The wispernet blew my mind: no setup needed, the device came pre-programed for me, it worked without a glitch, books and newspapers appeared into the device like magic. PDFs look great. Great battery life. The five-way controller is surprisingly good for pointing & clicking. Web browser is not bad.

Cons: I could not create folders in the desktop: assuming you fill the device with 3,500 books, you'll have to scroll through all of them. Absurd! I even tried to create folders via my computer but they did not show on the desktop. The screen is clearly large enough to show two side-by-side pages (landscape orientation) but this option does not exist. All the books have the same font, same page format. But the deal breaker for me was this: I paid to get the large screen (DX) so that I could read the newspaper. I assume it would look like PressReader or Olive Software, i.e. a paper-like image with clickable articles. Instead, I got a string of articles that look like emails. I got no pleasure reading them, did not even recognize this as my newspaper.

Bottom line: great hardware, great connection but the poor operating system takes all the pleasure away from reading on it. I returned the device after two days.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Buy Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

The Kindle reader is the price of a low end PC but is really clunky and lacking normally expected features when used for accessing reference documents. Navigation is ordinary (slow and difficult) on native books and dreadful on pdf docuements (the links just don't work). PDF to Kindle conversion is useless in a document with substantial graphics.

The quality of publishing on at least one, nearly full priced reference book, "Mastering vba for Microsoft Office 2007" is NOT merchantable quality with arbitrary spacing between letters of the (presumably fixed width) font used identifying text examples.

Why justify the text anyway? Readability is generally recognised as higher with standard letter spacing.

I had hoped that Kindle might provide a way for distributing technical documents but it is way of the mark.

Basically unimpressed.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle is "the magic tablet." I had no idea how cool getting "INSTANT" books would be. I love the simplicity of the technology. Words I would have read over or used context to determine meaning are defined as I read along. No more guessing about an author's meaning.

This is NOT reading at a computer. I HATE that. This is a book sized, hand held, read in bed, read at the doctors office size tablet that is wireless.

Love the "sample" a book feature. Several best sellers were books I could see I did not like in the first few pages. I did not have to buy them after sampling. Easy to delete. I Accidentally hit "purchase" on books I was just going to sample; there is the "accidentally BUY" feature? Hit delete and error undone at no cost.

I Love reading several books at one time. Kindle opens all to exactly where I left off. I still have the ability to go back to previous pages easily. So much great stuff.

Somebody mentioned, on television, how funny a book was and I was reading it 2 minutes later laughing along with the interviewer. Imagine your boss saying, "Have you read The Tipping Point-the part discussing the Rule of 150?" A few minutes later, after you have downloaded The Tipping Point in seconds, you can have an intellegent conversation with him/her about it.

Love being able to KEEP books I love (up to 3,600 of them) with me all the time OR deleting stinkers.

Love many classics I have never read are FREE like many Jane Austin books I have meant to read and just haven't. Now Jane Austin is in my Kindle to be read at my leisure.

I miss not having pictures of the authors or pictures in the books in the selections I have chosen so far.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Review

This was purchased for my 78-year old mother. Due to macular degeneration, she has had to give up many of the crafts and hobbies that she's always enjoyed. Reading is like life's blood to my family and she has had to resort to large print books in recent years. We have a small local library, and the selection of large print books is not great. The idea of the large font option on the Kindle is what really sold me on it for Mom. I was able to teach her the basics of the Kindle in a day, and she has taken charge of her reading since then. She has bought a couple of books, downloaded some freebies, and tries to absorb a bit more of the Kindle Guide each day. She has read more books since Mother's Day than she read in the previous 6 months. She recently called to tell me that she was reading a book recommended by a friend. That was something that she was unable to do before, because of the scarcity of large print books at the library. Hearing the joy she is getting once again from reading makes the Kindle unequivocally the best gift we've ever given her.
If you are thinking about this for someone in Mom's age range, I think that they should have a "working knowledge" of computer so that the 5-way controller doesn't overwhelm them, and so that they can search/download books for themselves. The Kindle Guide is very comprehensive (almost overwhelming in some ways) but I think that it needs to be, as the written directions that come with the Kindle are sparse.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

I cannot say I was mislead in an any way but I can say I am completely dissatisfied with my purchase. Compared to my previous kindle this thing weighs a ton. Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation This instant

I recently purchased the Kindle DX wireless reading device for my 80-year old mother. She loves it! Having given the earlier version of Kindle to my wife (also a lover of reading) a little over a year ago, and discovering how easy it was for her to use, and how much she enjoyed it, my dad and I thought it would be good to see if the larger screened (and more capable) Kindle DX would be a fit for Mom. Well it's not only a fit, it's a hit!

I highly recommend the Kindle DX!

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Immediately

Here are a couple of observations on Kindle DX after having been using the device for several months now. My basic impression: It's a very nice device, but would be MUCH better through only a handful of small and simple improvements:

1. PAGE NUMBERS: Notoriously, Kindle does not display the page numbers of the print version, only locations. Technically, it should not be difficult to indicate page numbers. Other electronic reading devices like the Sony reader do so. It sounds like a minor detail, but it isn't. Its major. I am a political scientists and I need to cite texts with precision. What I cannot cite properly is useless for me. Besides, it would be much easier to jump between pages than between chapters and stratospheric locations. Too, you could offer one size format that corresponds exactly to the print version.

2. FILING SYSTEM: The absence of a filing system is a continual insult to my sense of order. Its like piling up a whole library on one desk. I would be most grateful if Amazon could update the Kindle software to enable readers to store books in as many folders as they need. Something simple like Windows Explorer would suffice.

3. AVAILABILITY: The number of e-Books available from Amazon is still very small. I can find a Kindle edition of only one in 30 books I'm interested in. Availability is poorer still in other languages, like German, French or Spanish. Even for major Nobel-prize winning authors no or only very few Kindle editions are available. Not to speak of the social sciences.

Two footnotes: (a) Some Kindle books are not available outside the US, which is annoying. (b) Previously, Amazon still offered the option to indicate that one would like read certain books as Kindle books. Now, this possibility is regrettably gone.

4. FORMAT: Kindle editions look like ugly, somewhat neglected cousins of their print versions. A bit like second-rate books. Almost everything appears in one boring standard font. Unedited texts contain numerous tiny errors, like erroneous superscripts, uneven line spaces, or misplaced hyphens. Often, illustrations or photographic material cannot be displayed.

5. PRIZE: Given the lower quality of electronic editions, prizes should be at least somewhat lower than paper back editions. In my view, Kindle books that cost more, some of them even as much as hardcover editions, are over-prized. I refuse to buy them.

6. ELECTRONIC DUPLICATES: I would be nice to have electronic duplicates of many of the paper books I have bought over the years at Amazon. I dont know how far back you keep records of customer purchase, but Amazon might consider the possibility of selling Kindle books at special prices if customers have bought paper copies with you at some earlier point in time.

7. LENDING: One can't lend Kindle books to friends, and not even give them away as a gift. Like many other costumers, I deplore this. It devalues electronic books from Amazon.

8. UNDERLINING: Underlining is slightly awkward, often a bit slow and with recurrent minor malfunctions. Besides, it could be improved by additional functions, like the possibility of underlining whole sentences with one click. It also contains one small, but annoying fault: Kindle underlines not just words, but grammatical signs, which is often unwanted and looks miserable. Graphically, underlines look worse than they might. They are a bit too fat and lie a bit too low.

9. MENU: The menu should contain at least two additional options: go to endnotes (or footnotes). And: go to references. Jumping from text to notes or references and back often does not work properly.

10. BATTERY CHARGING: The cable for charging Kindle is one of its best parts. Its really cute and serves well for other electronic devices too. Still it would be nice to have Solar Kindle that charges itself by exposure to solar energy.

11. WEIGHT: Kindle DX is heavier that I had expected. Heavier than many of the books I read. If it were slightly lighter, I would appreciate it.

12. HANDLING: There are no obvious ways holding Kindle DX in ones hands. Often I find myself struggling to hold it in a way that would not interfere with the right-hand buttons. You might consider adding some gripped surfaces or small indentations that make it more comfortable holding it freely.

13. NON-RESPONSE: I sent a previous version of these observations to Kindle DX Feedback by e-mail, but except for a standard note of acknowledgment have received no specific response. Which is a pity.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Best Quality

First, let me say that I spent 6 months deciding what I wanted to purchase. I won't bore you with the back-and-forth waffling that commenced...but in the end, I decided I did not want to read on an LED screen. I wanted a dedicated e-reader. Then it came down to screen size. Would the extra text-per-page be worth the extra weight and price? The answer is: Yes! I cannot even imagine reading on a K2. In fact, I saw one after getting my DX and was shocked how small it was. The whole K2 fit in the screen of the DX. Ha ha. I don't even care about all the PDF capabilities and manual reading that Amazon touts. I just LOVE the screen size. Less "interruptions" of page turns means I'm more engaged. Speaking of page turns, the buttons are well placed and the time for the ink to realign is more than acceptable. I don't even notice it anymore.

It does not hold comfortably long in ONE hand...but in TWO hands, weight is not an issue. It is still lighter than a hardback book. The contrast is great; I set the text on the smallest size, actually. I don't know if it was the content of the book or this new medium I was reading on, but I read my first book on the Kindle in 3 days. :) It didn't take long into my first book to not even realize what I was holding was not a paper book.

Here's why I took away 1 star though. Cursoring through the text is a drag. That part of the technology just feels backwards. No way around it for me. Many complain they don't want a touch Kindle because of fingerprints, but there is good oleophobic screens out there; plus I don't think it would be an issue on the Kindle's matte screen. Also, the first two books I bought were accounts of WWII, so they contained maps. They were not viewable on the Kindle. The resolution of the images prevents being able to make out labels or the legend. I was forced to come to my Kindle for Mac application. Granted, I don't know if that is the Kindle's limitation or the publisher's fault...but I was a bit put out by it.

I absolutely have no regrets about this decision. You won't either.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.
