Cheap Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I waited a while to order my Kindle DX in hopes that the price would come down. Unfortunately that wasn't happening. Therefore I made the "investment". I couldn't be happier!! For me one of the main reasons I wanted the DX instead of the Kindle 2 was my desire to be able to increase the font size and still maintain a decent amount of text on the screen. The DX totally fullfills my needs. My aging eyes are now able to enjoy reading again without eye strain.

I love all the other features mentioned in other reviews and many of the technical shortcomings mentioned aren't as much of a concern for me. It's a great way to read a book.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Buying Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

The product was very easy to setup and use. All of the directions that came with the product were clear and the product operated as proclaimed. Placing PDF files on the Kindle was straight forward, which caused a problem, normally things are not as easy as the directions that came with the Kindle, once the directions were followed it was a snap to operate.
The only thing that I would like to see with the Kindle is the ability to organize documents into folders, at present there are only three options "Most Recent First", "Title", and "Author", which is fine if you are only using for books.
All in all this is a great product.Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device (9.7" Display, Global Wireless, Latest Generation)Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

With 1500 plus reviews, who needs one more? I just want to add the Canadian aspects. This is a comparison of Sony PRS 505 and Kindle DX simply, because I have these two products. The Sony was the first good e-reader in Canada and I've read 47 books with it. Time passed, and now I use the Kindle DX, since a couple of weeks. This is what I think of the two units:

READER. The Kindle DX size is a great plus, if you mostly read at home. For travel, or just to read in the park, the smaller Kindle, or the Sony would be better. The wireless delivery for the Kindle is great, but downloading with the PC was no burden with the Sony. Not being able to group books into categories, is a big minus for the Kindle. The Sony came with a fine leather cover, the Kindle DX cover is 50$ extra and not as nice as the Sony.

AUDIO. The Sony audio is excellent and includes record data, and even the cover art. The Kindle DX audio is dismal. Mp3 files, which play perfectly with the Sony and iPod Classic or Shuffle, on the Kindle Dx play with periodic distortion. This I think is a shame, since all the more sophisticated functions of the Kindle DX work flawlessly. With the Kindle DX, there is no way to select, what you want to listen to. Your only choice is to listen all files, in the order in which they were transferred from the PC. As a minimum, a shuffle option should be added to the Kindle.

BOOK AVAILABILITY IN CANADA. This is an area, where the Kindle shines. While Sony is apparently abandoning their Canadian customers, Amazon is constantly improving their offerings for Canada. This is the main reason, I bought the Kindle DX. Many of the books formerly offered to Canada, are now restricted to US ONLY with Sony. When I read, that Amazon wants to be the best consumer oriented Company, I tend to believe them.

FUTURE. I understand, that the Amazon-Kindle books can be read on the new Apple iPad. This means, that there is compatibility with future devices. I don't know where Sony stands on this issue.

We don't live in a perfect world, Both these devices have their merits. On the basis of book availability in Canada, I will stay with the Kindle DX from now on.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Purchase Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

Got the DX recently. It is awesome. I chose Kindle over the iPad to combat eye strain. And I chose DX over Kindle 2 for the larger screen so I can read academic papers. Navigating the Kindle is pretty easy. I'm not an HCI expert so I'm sure the UI could be improved, but it was pretty easy for me to use. The resolution is fine and things are easy to read. I love the native PDF reader. I can easily display foreign language text using it.

The reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because I think it could still be improved:

1. Needs a better way to organize documents and books. There should be a way to tag each document with arbitrary labels and have those labels show up at the top. This seems like it should be achievable with a simple software upgrade.

2. A lot of wasted space on the device that could have been used to either make the device smaller or the screen bigger. I like the feel of the keyboard, but the chasms between keys are gigantic and really slows you down. I mean come on, Blackberry's been around for how long now? And no one has been managed to come up with a better keyboard.

All in all it's an awesome device so far. I will update as I get to know my DX more.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Order Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I have been very curious about eReaders for some time now. I purchase a jetbook as a birthday present for a friend, after reviewing Kindles (this was pre-iPad). My friend really likes his jetbook. I think it's way too small. When the iPad came out, I decided to check it out. I really liked the navigation with iPad, but found that it was a bit heavy, was difficult to read in sunlight and the screen smudges easily. But I really liked how pages turn when reading books. So, I decided to try the Kindle DX. It arrived yesterday afternoon, and already, I am thinking of returning, for the following reasons:

1. the screen refresh is so odd; it completely fizzes out and then the new page comes up. Maybe it's a defect. If it's not, it just doesn't work for me;
2. the screen changes when navigating, take too long
3. the screen takes a while to change when I go from portrait to landscape
4. the type is actually not that easy to read

So, for me, for close to $500, I'm not happy and am now thinking of getting the iPad.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Where To Buy Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

This is not a review, more of what do you get for your money?
I like reading, but, why pay nearly $500 for a reader when you can get a notebook or laptop for the same money.
Software is available for the laptops and desktops that enable you to do what the Kindle DX does.
If I am missing something, could someone explain the advantages in buying this item.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Shop For Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I have only had my Kindle 5 weeks and so far I am very happy. Ordering books is easy and so fast (less than one minute). If you want to sample the book before purchase, you are given a surprisingly large number of pages to review. The dictionary feature is wonderful, just click by the word and the definition pops up at the bottom of the page. You can set the print to the size that is best for your comfort. I printed out the instructions so I can have them on hand. I know I need to get more familiar with all the features, but so far it is great. And I am not adept with digital/computer devices.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Review

I am on my third Kindle and I can say that I will not buy another. The book prices have gone way up and are equal to the regular book price for many publishers (e.g.,Harper Collins). I am unclear how Amazon and the publishers can justify full book price on most books without the publishing cost, shipping cost etc. compounded by the cost of the Kindle device. In addition, many new releases are not available on Kindle for weeks after the hard cover release. I am returning to the environmentally unsound paperback from used book stores, Target and Costco. At least I'll be able to share with multiple other users.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Top Quality

I love: Big screen, sharp resolution, easy access to the Amazon store, auto-rotation of the screen, ability to leave side-notes, bookmarks, the easy access dictionary, word search, text-to-speech

Could have been better: Handling of PDFs - no content menu in PDFs, cannot leave side-notes in PDF documents, big PDF documents are slow in responding to page turns, no support for EPub format; the library for magazines, technical books and newspapers is limited and needs to expand.

Conclusion: The Amazon Kindle DX is one of the very few readers with a 9 inch display which comes with all the features that makes a great e-reader. Its light-weight and thin design makes it very easy to carry it around and has the potential to replace the dog as the man's (or woman's) best friend ! It is such a comforting thought that you can carry all your favorite books and magazines in those few hundred grams. Anywhere you go, the Kindle is bound to give you good company.

However, there are areas of improvement. Not all documents are in Amazon's proprietary format, support for formats like ePub and getting around the issues with large PDF documents will make this the ultimate e-reader that one can desire for.

Nevertheless I feel that the Kindle DX is the purchase of the decade if you are into books and reading in general.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation This instant

This is our second Kindle DX so obviously we like it - for all the reasons you can see in the Kindle ads. The one additional feature we would like to see is the addition of other file types that can be read on the Kindle. Libraries are making eBooks available in .pub file format which should be readable on the Kindle. I suspect Amazon is reluctant to add file types for fear of losing eBook sales. Personally I believe the added file type capability would increase the number of people using Kindles and ultimately increase the market for Amazon eBook sales.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Immediately

I bought my Kindle a few months back. The biggest draw was the guarantee that no book, including new best sellers, would be more than $9.95. Now, with no notice of any kind, I find the guarantee has literally REVERSED itself and it now says, "best sellers AS LOW AS $9.95"!!!! What a deceptive rip off. Most stuff is now $13.95. That's a big hike. It seems like bad timing, too, considering the release of the iPad (with backlight so you don't need a flashlight outside your home!) Why be loyal to Kindle after a sneaky move like that?Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Best Quality

I like my kindle DX, but being a student the price took a huge chunk out of my pocket book.(what happened to giving a student a break - especially when you are the oldest student in your class) *smiles*

I love the font size capabilities, and that it rotates with you as you move. The buttons on the side does cause a problem of carrying and walking at the same time.

I dislike the fact that there is NO color, keyboard is so small, and it does become slow at times to the push of a button. I know I don't have anywhers near even 200 books on it yet.

Overall it is nice, but I think I could have saved a few $100's for the smaller one and still received the same plus' if not more.

If I had it to do over, I would have bought the smaller one.

We love reading books and have 4,000 books at home.

I travel a lot and have decided to buy an eReader. I was planning to buy the DX until the iPad came out.

It just doesn't make sense to pay so much for the Kindle DX when you can get an iPad for not much more.

The sad reality is that the Kindle DX is so limited.

The iPad is a cross between an eReader, a smart phone, a net book and a small note book.

The Kindle DX is just an eReader. And it doesn't even do that as well as it could.

Kindle has a physical keyboard. Who needs that?

Kindle has no backlighing. How can you read in dim light?

Kindle has no touch screen. How 20th century is that?

Kindle is in B/W. Excuse me, when did color beocme optional?

I'm buying a WiFi iPad and downloading the Kindle app. I will still buy books from Amazon, but they will be for the iPad.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

The Kindle should have the option to toggle between left text justification and full text justification. Instead, the Kindle software forces full justification. Accessibility is reduced for low vision users since fully justified books at large font settings have distracting rivers of white.

The dialog for toggling text justification exists in all Kindles, even the Kindle 1, but it is hidden requiring the user to modify their firmware to expose this very useful functionality. Why did the developers do this?

I'm guessing the product manager for the Kindle decided that since some publishers force full justification in the their book markup on the paragraph level, that it would be too much trouble to explain to users why the text justification toggle works with some books and not others. Lazy! The real solution would be update the kindle renderer to override the publisher or mandate that publishers stop forcing text justification so that the user could decide how they want their text justified.

Amazon, at the very least, please unhide the text justification dialog. That would allow me to enjoy some of my books at large font settings.

Lowest Price Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

Being from Luxembourg, Europe, I ordered this DX version after getting the Kindle 2. It arrived one week after ordering. I'm very, very happy with it.
Downloading e-books from Amazon using whispernet without problems. Have a subscription to a magazine, which is delivered monthly on the kindle without problems. Take it always along wherever I go. Actually, I have "only" 588 items on it.
Now they even announced a firmware update, that gives you more possibilities, it's already very good, now it will be even better.
I just love it and use it daily.
I can highly recommend it.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

This was exactly what I hoped it would be. I wanted a dedicated reader. The battery lasts all week, It holds way more books than I will ever have on it and it is light weight and easy to use. I live in Alberta, Canada and the wireless works great. I ordered the DX when I was visiting my parents in Texas and it was delivered to the house in less than 24 hours. I don`t know how it can be any better than just being able to sit in my recliner chair, search a book title and be reading a sample of the book in just a minuet or two, then if I like the sample it only takes one click to get the rest of the book. I now take 50 or more books with me wherever I go and they all fit in my briefcase.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Discount Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

After having it about a month, I am very pleased with my Kindle DX. It is actually easier to read books on the DX than from an actual paper book (less eye strain, easier to keep my place, and faster to read). It performs exceptionally well in shaded or sunlite areas. I read the other day outside with half the screen in sunlight and half in shade and it was no problem. I have read indoors, on balconies, on the beach, etc., all with great results. Some pdf files do not always display properly, but simple text pdf docs work great. PDF docs with images take a few seconds to display, which I imagine may get faster in later models. Battery life is exceptional. If you have wireless turned off, it can easily last for 10 days, or more, without charging, and with heavy reading.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.
