Cheapest Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

Long story short the Kindle DX is an awesome ereader. I wanted a quality product that was convenient and easy to use and the Kindle definitely fit the bill. The immediate, no cost wireless access to 1000's of titles is wonderful. I specifically chose the Kindle DX over the iPad because I wanted to read books and not be distracted by email, videos, games, etc. Sure enough I made the right choice. I am reading more than ever and I'm finding the experience very relaxing. The experience still feels like a real book. If your interest is purely reading books you will love this product.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Cheap Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

The Kindle DX does not replace any device in my inventory. However, if there were a way to attach a foot actuated page turner to the device similar to [...], paper sheet music could become obsolete and would take a priority position in my line-up of e-devices cell phone, PC, MP3 player, laptop.... I believe the market for sheet music would also increase as many would opt to replace old paper copies with new digital versions. Interactive programs such as musicnotes or Sibelius would be a vast improvement as well. Laptops will work but take up too much space.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Buying Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I'm quite happy wiyh my kindle. Besises all the goodies like the excellent readability, character resizing, the wireless 3G connectivity, I do have some things eligible for improvement:
- the keypad has very small keys, hardly readable in half light,
- the international customers have to buy an extra power adapterset, Amazon could opt for a selectable feature for the power cord.
- the experimental webbrowser is severly restricted outside the US

However, what the kindle must do, facilitate aesy oredering and reading of books, it does it wonderful. I enjoy it highly!Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Buy Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I bought a Kindle to save money on purchasing books and to not have to store so many of the ones I love to read over and over. However, in the 8 months I have owned the Kindle, I have seen the availability of newly released books on kindle decline, and the price of each book (some MORE than the hardcover price) increase dramatically. With all the new mediums of e-books out there and coming in the future, I'd hold off on a Kindle purchase until Amazon can get their act together with new book release availability and pricing.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Purchase Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I purchased the Kindle DX so that I could keep textbooks on it. I liked the DX because it is larger than the regular Kindle and it holds more information on the screen.

As a college student, I liked being able to carry the Kindle DX in my book bag rather than a pile of heavy textbooks.

I quickly discovered a major problem for students. Kindles don't work on a page number system. If you are in college (and it is probably the same in high school), reading assignments are given in page numbers (ie: read pages 265-420). It is impossible to do this on a kindle. I wrote to the Kindle support, but didn't receive a concerned response. This is a big issue for students and Amazon should find a way to address it more appropriately.

I understand why page numbers don't work for a Kindle: people can change the font size and that would wreck havoc with the page numbering system. However, the Kindle DX was touted as the perfect answer for students, when actually it becomes a nightmare trying to find the correct reading assignments on the Kindle. I still have not figured out how to do it.

The DX, while it fits nicely in a book bag, is too large to carry around in a purse (unless you have an extremely large purse!). For that reason, I bought a small Kindle to carry in my purse. I like it much better than the larger Kindle DX, and haven't turned on the DX for months. The smaller Kindle is the perfect size for reading books. I'm not so sure about textbooks. I will probably go back to hard copy textbooks so I can easily find the page numbers.

The Kindle DX turned out to be useless for me because of its size and inability to pinpoint reading assignments. I wish it wasn't too late to return it to Amazon.

Maybe my expectations were too high, maybe the problem is that I live in the time of iPods and Macs, but what it seemed like a wonderful idea for a device REALLY useful, has been ruined in the putting the idea into practice.

I really wanted this device. I travel a lot, and read a lot, so what would I would love more than to be able to carry as many books as I wanted without having those additional kilos (or pounds if you like).

I will list what I didn't like of the Kindle:

1)It gets dirty awfully easy: the pearl-like color implies that you MUST wash your hands every time before using the Kindle if you don't want to have it looking like an old rug in less that one week. Yes, you can buy a coloured cover or sheave, but if that is the case but that's not the point.

2)Pictures and graphics look TERRIBLE: If the book that you are reading has anything like a graphic or a picture that is less than half page in size, don't bother looking at it. Even with the "zooming" feature you will not be able to take a decent look.

3)It is slow: Passing pages feels pretty much as the feeling we experienced 10 or 15 years ago when "surfing the net". Plus, Amazon hasn't come up with a truly practical way of scrolling pages if you want to find something you left behind a few pages ago.

4)Too many buttons. That is the problem of been in the same time of the iPad. The device "feels" old.

And the worst part is that after 3 months with it, it is starting to behave "sluggish"... Let's hope for the bestGet more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

I just bought my Kindle DX two months ago, but today while i was reading it for 1-2 mins, it crashed and died for no reason... I'm very disappointed at Kindle DX, and I will neither purchase it again nor suggest my friends to purchase it.

The Kindle is a great piece of hardware- for people who love the printed word, and love to read, this is manna... BUT, for those it is aimed at - people like me who have thousands of PDF documents on their computers and are looking for a device that can carry them on the go - this device has a major drawback. There is no way to organize the content in a coherent manner. This means I cannot make folders to hold my scientific reprints and those that will hold my fiction novels. There is no way I can create a system to organize my information. To illustrate better, amazon has built a splendid library that lets you read in a fantastic environment and choose from thousands of titles. But this library has no organization- no reference system - no different racks for different titles..everything in this library is arranged by alphabetic order. The Kindle is an excellent example of how technology cannot compensate for a lack of common sense, I wonder who thought of marrying such a great electronic device with such a pathetic user interface - someone who has never read or collected too many books or articles I am sure. My advice, refrain from spending 500 bucks on this unless you intend to delete and replace your content every once in a while. For those of us who have already bought this, the Kindle reminds us that technology in the hands of the dim witted will result in a terrible waste of potential function - such is the world of big brand corporate products these days it seems....Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I recently purchased a Kindle DX and am based in Europe. Overall the product is pretty good, drawbacks are; lack of pictures when reading newspapers and it needs a backlight function (very hard to read in low light environment). The real nightmare begins if you need to contact customer service with any problems, lots of bouncing around call centres where they spend more time asking your name and details and leaving you on hold. I had a pretty simple question (and it turns out the answer was also!!) but it took 4 phone calls (long distance) and 5 emails to get a competent reply.....so all in all good product but customer support poor. Also , they really should have a toll free no. for international customers.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

I am very happy with my Kindle DX. I have found it very easy to use, and has made reading very relaxing again. I am almost 47, and I have a hard time with small font. I love being able to change the font size even larger if my eyes are tired. I have had it for three weeks and I am reading my 4th book, and I have charged it twice. I still like going to bookstores to look around and choose books, but I just order them on my Kindle DX.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation This instant

I've waited for almost a year now after i purchased Kindle DX to leave this comment. Below are my pros and cons.

Pros:
1. E-Ink feel like reading a real book. I'm one of those people that can't really read hundred of pages on computer monitor screen therefore i ruled out IPAD for reading purposes.
2. Awesome Battery life (i'm talking about a week with regular use) and compact enough to carry around so i downgraded my big back pack that i carry everyday to a small messenger bag..
3. Can purchase textbooks.
4. i can put all my pdf documents on there quite easily.

Cons:
1. Slow page turning comparing to a real book. (I have to go back and forth all the time when i read#
2. Quite hard to underline or bookmark a page.
3. I'm a tech person so all my technical books have some tables and graphs...#it's quite terrible on that sometime because i can't even read the content in it which is sometime quite crucial information.
4. Like many say, no organization tool.

All and all, i like this product and will continue to use it. Also if you only want to read novel or fiction only...buy the small one, you don't need DX.

Enjoys your Kindle.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

I also have a Sony PRS-700 and the Kindle DX is waaaay easier to read. Too much glass reflection on the Sony. The size of the DX works better for me. The DX user interface, on the other hand, is not as good as Sony's and I miss the touch-screen. The kindle hardware, also, looks and in fact IS fragile. I already broke one DX and I'm very carefull with my gadgets. But, as a whole, it is the best eReader on the market.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Get it now!

Although I love the feel, smell and experience of a BOOK, times change and technology wins out. I resisted getting an electronic reader for years but finally, after researching devices available, bought the Kindle DX. I will forever miss a "book" but I find myself reaching up to turn pages with my now treasured Kindle -- which tells me the experience is everything and more than I had ever dreamed it would be.

Being able to archive books without dusting shelves and taking up space is a huge bonus! Add in one click shopping, it doesn't get much better.

I have found some books not available that I would like to purchase. I am hoping, as the publishers and representatives expand product availability, this will change. I tend to reads books that come in series and some of the first of series are not yet available. Having said that, some books that I have had to search for in the past and special ordered are easily purchased through Amazon.

If you are sitting on the fence trying to decide, I highly recommend taking a leap of faith and joining the new world of electronic readers.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Right now

I have had the Kindle DX for about two weeks now and already I've been asked many times for my opinion of it (they're still quite rare in Australia so there's plenty of interest in it) and my short answer is, "If you're just after an electronic alternative to physical books, then it's a very good option."

Unfortunately, I'm also usually asked why I bought it instead of an iPad, which tells me that the average punter fundamentally does not understand the kindle. So, in a nutshell, if you intend to do a lot of reading of electronic books then the type of screen a dedicated reader like the kindle has is far easier on your eyes than the type of screen an all purpose computing device like the iPad has. An iPad-like device is great for doing a multitude of things (surfing the net, dealing with emails, listening to music, reading documents and electronic books,...) but it's not the type of screen I want to look at for hours at a time when I'm reading a book. Since I've started using a kindle for reading electronic books instead of an iPad-like device, I've noticed a big reduction in eye fatigue. It's also far easier to read in a range of light conditions that would cause problems with glare on an LCD screen. However, reading electronic books is ALL the kindle does (as you can read on other reviews, even reading pdfs on the kindle is sub-optimal). So, if you want only one device to do all those other things mentioned above, in addition to reading electronic books, then the kindle is not for you.

Bouquets:
(1) Kindle books are so cheap! In two weeks, I've bought 10 books and everyone of them has been far cheaper than they would have been to buy physically in Australia (at least 60% cheaper).
(2) I find reading on the kindle to be excellent; far less eye fatigue compared to LCD - I'm not noticing a difference in eye fatigue compared to reading physical books - and more comfortable to hold than a physical book because it's lighter and I don't have to expend any effort to keep the book open.

Brickbats:
(1) The device price is absurd! It's actually embarrassing to answer peoples' questions on the price. However, with the rate at which I go through books and the savings made on those books by buying them for the kindle, I'll recoup the entire purchase cost of the device within months.
(2) Amazon's greed in dealing with content providers. There is so much content missing from this platform that would be perfect for it that it is incredibly frustrating, and that is mainly due to Amazon believing that they should be entitled to the majority of the sale - get real, content is king and screwing content providers over is why they are so desperately lining up behind Apple. Kindle has been out for how long now and yet the Australian paper publishers still refuse to have anything to do with it yet they've all said they're going to jump onto the iPad platform and that's not even in Australia yet!
(3) This far along the path of personal computing devices, how is it possible that a new one comes out that does not allow you to organise your content? The device can store thousands of books but to get to the one you're after you'll have to scroll through a simple list of all of them - nice.

Low Price Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

In October of 2009, I decided I wanted an E-Reader.

The convenience of a library in such a small form factor, the savings on books and the ease of shopping for new titles got me interested in the first place, but I move just about every year, and the thought of lugging more books around during each move pushed me over the edge. I was all set to purchase the Kindle until I started hearing rumblings about the iPad.

Many of the early rumors around the iPad described it as a competitor to the Kindle in the E-Reader space. Being a fan of my iPhone, I decided I had better wait to see what Apple had in store.

Fast forward to last month, and the release of the iPad. I got my hands on an iPad, both in the store and with friends that had purchased the device. Spent time with it, and judged it on it's qualities as an E-Reader.

Guess what?
It's not an E-Reader.

I have plenty of other screens to view movies, surf internet on, play games, use the app store through. What I wanted was a screen that gave my eyes a rest, and felt like a book and/or newspaper. With this, the Kindle delivers flawlessly, along with the portability, the savings on titles and the ease of shopping.

The user experience is simple and intuitive, and the screen is an absolute pleasure to read from. I really enjoy the ability to download and purchase books anywhere with cell phone reception, and not having to pay for another data plan as well.

I look forward to picking up my next Kindle in a few generations; I know they are working on getting full color to work on the device. I would certainly subscribe to more of the full color publications (Time, Newsweek, etc.) if full color was available...plus I'd be curious to see how web browsing would look in this as well.

Refresh time on the screen is likely holding back touch-screens, but this would also be a welcome addition to the usability of the device as well.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

We purchased the Kindle DX for my mother-in-law, who is 90 years old and suffering from advanced macular degeneration. Her life-long favorite pastime has been reading. For a few years, large print publications made it easier for her to read. Then she resorted to large print plus a magnifying glass. Finally, she had to give up reading -- it was just too difficult and too frustrating. Although skeptical of anything resembling a fancy electronic device when she opened her gift, as soon as she saw the first page of a book she had wanted to read displayed on the DX in the largest font, it was love at first sight. Her DX has been her constant companion ever since.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Cheapest Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

IMPORTANT UPDATE:
As of version 2.5 of the Kindle OS, now available for both the DX and the K2, the Kindle has a form of Folders .... ahem ... Collections. Although they curiously left out the ability to sort your collection list alphabetically, this is a MAJOR step in the right direction! So I'm not complaining about the sorting omission ... yet. LOL

**************************************************

My wife and I have been huge Kindle fans since I got her one for Christmas the year they came out. I personally am loath to read a paper book anymore ... the Kindle is just much more convenient, easier to read, and easier to carry around. PLUS, no longer do I have to cart around a suitcase half filled with weighty books when we travel.

My wife recently dropped and broke her original Kindle, so I got her a K2. The buttons on the K2 press toward the inside (toward the screen), rather than toward the outside. This makes it virtually impossible to accidentally button to the next page, something which could happen in the K1 (but in our case seldom did once we were used to it).

The DX buttons work the same way. I got a DX because I'm currently in the position of referring to several computer reference books for projects I'm working on, and I decided it would be more convenient to view them on a DX, rather than to crane my neck around at odd angles to view them on a 2nd monitor, or to keep a thick book perched somewhere around ... plus you already know my recent distaste for paper books. ;-)

Some of the reference sources I use are also tutorials in web sites. It is fairly easy to copy the important parts of web pages, create a PDF file of your own, and put it on the DX. This can be much more convenient than trying to arrange your work and browser windows so that you do all of that just on the computer monitor(s).

The problem with the DX is that the buttons are only on one side. That was a serious design flaw, but I can live with it for the limited purpose for which I purchased my DX. When reading for pleasure, I frequently change hands just to give one a break (which I also used to do with paper books), to reach for drinks, and so forth. The only saving grace in this regard for the DX is that so much more text is displayed on a page, you don't have to change the page anywhere near as frequently as on the smaller versions. So if I am holding the Kindle in my left hand, its not too bad to reach up and hit the button with my right hand, unless it is otherwise occupied ... i.e. holding a drink. It is barely conceivable to cradle the DX in your left forearm so that your fingers are reaching around behind it to hit the buttons, as if you were holding a musical instrument of some sort. However, even if you find that you can do that, it isn't ideal.

The only other quibble I have with the K2 and the DX was the loss of ALT-T to get the time. However, a very nice person commented under this review that the time is displayed at the top of the screen when you press the Menu button, and he's absolutely right. So that quibble is cooked.

If you are an avid reader and haven't tried the Kindle yet, you owe it to yourself to do so. You'll discover a new experience in how you read, and over the long run the Kindle will pay for itself in decreased cost of books.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Cheap Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I've had Kindle for PC for awhile and for Christmas last year also got a Barnes and Noble nook. A few days ago, my Kindle DX came in, so I'm clearly becoming a connoisseur of the e-book. So far the device has worked exactly as advertised and has given me no problems. The books show up within a minute as promised. The pages turn easily, and the text is easy to read. I like the auto rotation feature on it although by habit I still keep the device rightside up mostly. Being used to the touchscreen features of the nook (which I also highly recommend even though it's a competing product), I had a little bit of a time accustoming myself to the different navigational means of the DX, but that was only for a very brief period. Two features I would like for the DX are a manually replaceable battery and the ability to increase storage. I don't rate those as negatives , however, because neither has become a problem for me as yet. Overall, I'm highly pleased with the Kindle DX and enjoy it immensely. It and similar devices are clearly the wave of the future, and I hope they open many who would otherwise not be inclined to reading up to the joys of it in a new and fun way.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

It seems that other reviews have more than adequately covered the technical aspects of the Kindle DX. This is my first Kindle and I love it. I am an avid reader and I bought it because I could no longer hold a book. The Kindle DX gave that joy back to me. It is easy to hold and operate, and I noticed that there is even a stand available should I no longer be able to hold it M-Edge FlexStand Kindle DX Bookstand (Fits 9.7" Display, Latest Generation Kindle DX). I really recommend the M-Edge booklight M-Edge e-Luminator2 Kindle DX Booklight (Fits 9.7" Display, Latest Generation Kindle DX). It's the perfect companion to the Kindle DX. It casts a bright, non-glaring light that works well in both low light and darkness. There have been comments in other reviews about the buttons being on the right. I'm a lefty and have no trouble operating them. I'm delighted with all the extra features including web access, especially since my main objective was to purchase an e-reader. Of course I would have liked a lower price point, but The Kindle DX has given me a piece of normal life back and that is priceless.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Where To Buy Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I love it when Amazon sends me things early, and the Kindle was no exception; the expected delivery date was 14 May, and it arrived 11 May instead. I have been using the Kindle for the past few days (heavily), and by now feel I really know its ins and outs. A few things to note. One day of solid internet usage (googling things, buying things from the Kindle store, downloading periodicals) was enough to drain my Kindle's battery. I am not sure the exact usage that gives 1 week of battery life with the wireless on, but 1 day definitely falls far short of 1 week. However, with the wireless off, the Kindle's battery life really is phenomenal, and it looks like it might go for two weeks; in a few hours of book-reading usage, the battery doesn't even dip down a sliver.

Truly, I prefer the Kindle this way, wireless off. It's a "real book" this way. The UNIX philosophy is to make something that does it's one job supremely well. Back when computers were just getting started, Fujitsu made a machine that had 2-3 weeks of battery life. What happened to those computers? They've been so jam-packed with features that to attain such battery life again is going to require some very innovative technology. So after experimenting with all the extra features in the Kindle (the web browser, subscriptions to the NY Times, Reader's Digest, and Science News, for which I was keeping the wireless on even when not using the web browser, for Whispernet sync), I ditched them all, and am just enjoying my books (PDFs and books from the Kindle store), and I am tremendously impressed with the great battery life and readability in sunlight (it even looks better and less grey in the sunlight).

Kindle books format beautifully when the publisher does their job right. I notice Springer books tend to be well-formatted, but McGraw-Hill texts have some issues (blurry images... unforgivable in my mind. Hopefully they will fix this soon). So be careful to sample books before you buy them, for in technical books, blurry images are not only an eyesore, but a serious problem.

PDFs format beautifully, but one slight problem is that the autocrop doesn't always work consistently. It's a not a problem with the PDF itself, for I've seen the very same page appear autocropped, and appear in the dead-center of the page, very small. I've resolved it by rotating into landscape mode, returning to portrait, and re-opening the PDF file. It doesn't happen always, and I am sure a software update could fix this.

Being able to carry all my books with me as I go is incredibly useful. Last week my computer crashed, but because of my Kindle, I've been able to remain productive. Nearly all the books on my Kindle are for my math studies, and the Kindle enables me to read them in a way easy on the eyes, in a convenient-to-carry package. The lack of color, for me, is a plus, as I prefer black-and-white in technical texts.

My suggestions for improvement are to fix the problems I've mentioned, to make deals with more publishers so more math books can be available on the Kindle (I would be thrilled if Amazon got Dover to provide their books on the Kindle), and to keep the Kindle the simple and easy-to-use device that it is.
