Purchase Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation

I purchased the Kindle DX so that I could keep textbooks on it. I liked the DX because it is larger than the regular Kindle and it holds more information on the screen.

As a college student, I liked being able to carry the Kindle DX in my book bag rather than a pile of heavy textbooks.

I quickly discovered a major problem for students. Kindles don't work on a page number system. If you are in college (and it is probably the same in high school), reading assignments are given in page numbers (ie: read pages 265-420). It is impossible to do this on a kindle. I wrote to the Kindle support, but didn't receive a concerned response. This is a big issue for students and Amazon should find a way to address it more appropriately.

I understand why page numbers don't work for a Kindle: people can change the font size and that would wreck havoc with the page numbering system. However, the Kindle DX was touted as the perfect answer for students, when actually it becomes a nightmare trying to find the correct reading assignments on the Kindle. I still have not figured out how to do it.

The DX, while it fits nicely in a book bag, is too large to carry around in a purse (unless you have an extremely large purse!). For that reason, I bought a small Kindle to carry in my purse. I like it much better than the larger Kindle DX, and haven't turned on the DX for months. The smaller Kindle is the perfect size for reading books. I'm not so sure about textbooks. I will probably go back to hard copy textbooks so I can easily find the page numbers.

The Kindle DX turned out to be useless for me because of its size and inability to pinpoint reading assignments. I wish it wasn't too late to return it to Amazon.
