The Kindle Dx delivers almost everything I want from a reader. The one thing missing? Illustrations in British newspapers. If you reside outside the US then the newspapers are delivered with just the written stories. Not disasterous but it does reduce the reading pleasure - news stories should have illustrations and photos. When I received my new Kindle, it would not charge and it was unclear whether it was the Kindle or the power cord. I eventually got the help desk to agree with me that it was not going to charge, no matter how many times we counted to 15 holding a button or other really strange manuevers. At that point, I was sent a new Kindle which seems to work (I have been able to charge it).
It seems like a very minor thing to determine if a new device will take a charge before it leaves the factory. Perhaps a quality assurance review is in order.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

I got this because she travels with me a lot for business and sometimes finishes her book while away. Wow, I purchased my Kindle DX in December, after several delays I finally received my package. After a few weeks the Kindle started to have problems. My unit would freeze and turn on and off for no apparent reason. I have spent enough time with Tech support to open my own support team. Amazon's call me back is a clever way to connect to a person who answers and then puts you on hold to speak to yet another tech support person, then that support person puts you on with another support person only to tell you what you can read on the web site.
There is a software upgrade they say, but I don't believe Kindle these days. I have been told so many different things by tech support. Kindle support informed me that they are sending this software upgrade (that could fix my Kindle) out to only a few people at a time, they have been saying that for the last 6 weeks. I wonder why they wouldn't give it to someone who actually needs it?
The Kindle was a cool idea in concept. I think if I knew what I know now, i would have purchased the smaller unit at the much cheaper price... there is just not enough bang for the buck compared to the Ipad.
I am over waiting on hold, I am over Amazon's "select few" attitude and I am over my Kindle, Craigslist here I come.

Cheapest Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation
I have spent a lot of time over the last year researching e-readers and decided on the Kindle. I chose the Kindle above the others available because of the simplicity and the lack of monthly fees. I just use the Kindle to read for enjoyment. It has saved me many trips to the bookstore. I have a cell phone and laptop for communication, researching and for any other business. Like I said, it is just what I wanted.
The only drawback at present is the seemingly common misspelled words in some of the books.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

I just received the Kindle DX. It was a little smaller than I expected. But actually, I like the size. Mainly I will use it for reading PDFs. Initially, I thought I would need to put it in landscape to more easily read it. But actually portrait is perfect. It is really super on the eyes. In whatever other readers might be better. For me the most important thing is that it reads easy. For that reason, I'm very happy. I don't care that moving a page doesn't animate. That doesn't make the reading experience better. This thing just reads very good. For me no backlit color displays. eInk is what you need if you really want to read.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

I do not want to repeat what others have already written. Before I got my Kindle I believed in real books. You had to turn pages and wanted the real feeling of paper in your hands. Then I bought Michael Crichton's last novel "Pirate Latitudes". The letters in that book were so small that it was an ordeal to read - at least at my age of 60 plus. I got the Kindle and loaded the book. What a relief. I could adjust the letters to my liking and read without difficulties. I have read quite a few books now and I am still enthusiastic. I do not need paper any more. The only thing is, in Europe not all books are available, for example the new Preston/Child Pendergast novel. Well, I hope some patience will help here, and I can load it down, too. Also, it should soon be possible to download books in foreign languages, in my case German and French.
Older people should buy the Kindle. It is definitely more comfortable than books!Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

I have had my Kindle for a month now & have found it to have increased my reading substantially. I recommend it and its little brother for those of us who spend time on planes or somewhere else than our home. The ink is black & not tiring to the eye, and the screen contrast good. Perhaps the coolest thing is the battery life and the no-nonsense downloading once I purchase but it's a MUST that you buy a cover to protect it!

Where To Buy Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation
I have owned a Kindle ver. 1, and now I own a ver. 2. I decided to take the plunge and go for a Kindle DX based on the fact that a bigger reading surface would be better for newspapers and magazines, and I an very happy with my decission.
I am one of the book readers that normally preferred to purchase hardcovers, not only because they were normally available months (or years) before the paperback came out, but because I liked the bigger type and page and the feeling overall of a bigger book. I was missing this with the regular Kindle, although I was quite happy with its practicality. I purchased the DX thinking mainly of a better experience with newspapers and magazines, which it actually provides, but I never thought that the feel of a hardcover would be its greatest reward. The DX takes me back to the feeling of the hardcover.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation
I bought the DX the day after my first Kindle was delivered to me (with the small screen), because it is not possible for me to maintain the illusion of reading a print book on the smaller screen, no matter the size of the text.
The DX screen is almost the exact same size as the entire body of the smaller device, and the text can be made of a size to virtually mimic a print book.
I have used my Kindle DX on my desk at work, at restaurants while eating, aboard transcontinental passenger trains, while parked in rest areas on long drives, while working in my shop, when seated in my favorite reading chair and even when lying in bed. Its performance in all these situations is uniformly good.
In addition to Kindle books, bought through Amazon, I have loaded half a dozen PDF files of book length, including instruction manuals and novels. I have even converted the first drafts of my two novels into PDF files with MS Word 2007, and loaded them. (The more to force me to get off the dime and start the rewrites by allowing me to compare my work with that of the authors whose writing I have purchased.)
I have a small number of caveats for anyone thinking of buying the DX. Most of these I learned first hand after I received my DX and started using it, and none of them would have prevented me from buying it if I had known about them beforehand. I include them here in the hope that being aware of these things may prevent cardiac arrest should they occur to you.
Buy a good cover for your DX. You don't want to lose your near $500 investment because of an irretrievably damaged screen, and unless you plan to only take it out of the safe to read it, you're going to want to be sure you can protect it when you are transporting it. I bought the M Edge cover which flips over the top to create a stand of sorts and it not only protects my machine, it provides the perfect reading angle when I am eating. (I must read when I eat; if I forget to take a book, I end up reading the ingredients labels from the various bottle on the table.)
Don't worry about a reading light unless you will truly be in a situation where you cannot hold a flashlight. I have a small LED flashlight which focuses perfectly on the screen and illuminates the entire text for easy reading without creating distracting glare.
Sometimes the 15 second rule will not apply. In other words, if your Kindle gets confused and you need to reset it, holding the power slide switch for 15 seconds doesn't always work. I've held it for up to 60 seconds with no result. However, if I plug the unit into AC power and try again, it will reset, though sometimes it takes more than 25 seconds to do it.
It would be helpful if there was a way to "hide" selected entries to conceal them from anyone you might loan the machine to (I don't want my first drafts read by anyone but me, for example.)
There are other points I could add, but truly none of them are deal busters. To be able to access more than 70 volumes of my personal library when I travel or even just go to work, without having to lug around that many books is justification enough for buying it. And compared to what the iPad offers, I would still pick the Kindle DX.

I love my books and have hundreds so my taking the plunge and buying a Kindle was a big thing. I bought it primarily for when I go away, saves packing heavy books. I was still dubious when I placed the order and then it arrived two days later well.........I can't get enough of it! Unfortunately my first Kindle was defective, which I only discovered after about four days.......it would not charge up. I can't fault Amazon though, I spoke to custoemr services and after elimating various things he said that he would replace it. Luckily it arrived before the charge had gone so I was still able ti use the original one! I love the fact that that you can download samples of books, and they are fairly hefty samples (about a chapter and half) so you can try authors that you would not normally read. It is very easy to operate and it, almost, feels as though you are reading a book. I don't want, or need, pdf files so cannot comment on that. I can see that it will get unwieldy once you have more than a dozen books on there. I love to re-read books so it might be difficult to find! A small rice to pay for, in my opinion, a wonderful thing. I love it and cannot imagine being wothout now and that is only after three weeks!!Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Immediately
Before actually buy my Kindle, I was not sure if I should buy a Kindle or the new fancy iPad. After read a lot of documents, manuals and reviews, I decided to go with the Kindle DX. Now that I have spent more than a month with my Kindle and after read two books on it, I'm pretty sure I had made the right choice. Here are the strong points of Kindle:
1) iPad cannot run more than one application at a time. The kindle's "read for me" feature is a must-have for a frequent reader, either when you are drinking coffee or when you want to do other things in parallel. With the single-tasked iPad, this would never be possible (unless they come up with a software that can do this integrated with the reader. As of now, this doesn't exist).
2) I live in Brazil and my mother language is Portuguese. Although I can speak and understand very well English, I still have many words, mainly in non-technical books, that I don't know the meaning. Integrated dictionary on Kindle is a life savier. Imagine do this on the single-tasked iPad: close Kindle for iPad, open the dictionary, type de message, read the meaning, open again the Kindle for iPad and then put the meaning in the context. With the many contexts a word may have, this would be counterproductive - almost a ridiculous tasks.
3) I am also a book writer (not my first job - I am an IT Manager). I am the author of "Tribo do Mouse - Histórias, Dicas e Truques do Mundo Corporativo" (something like "tricks and tips of corporate world") and I am writing my second book - this time on leadership. I am reading a lot of books and the ability to buy any book at any time it is very good! Even travelling by car to another state I can buy a book with the 3G service available and have the book in a minute and start reading it, making notes on and completing the bibliography I need to use. Yes, I know that iPad is also available with 3G. The advantage here is the free 3G.
4) You can find gold-books for nothing. I love philosophy and I bought a book with many works of Nietzsche for 3 dollars! I also bought a book with many works of Tolstoy for the same price! That is simply amazing for lovers of those kind of books.
5) The e-Ink technology is amazing. I read a lot - my last Saturday I spent 6 hours in a row reading and did not get tired at all! Imagine do this in a LCD or a LED monitor. Forget about it!
Here are the not-so-strong points of Kindle:
1) Yes, magazines and newspapers are not good in Kindle. I subscribed to Zero Hora, a local newspaper here, and it sucks. I am cancelling as soon as the free period ends. It doesn't have pictures and tables - that are really important. Some texts don't make any sense without the picture or table that the text is refering to. I am convinced already that I need a new gadget to read magazines and newspapers (like New York Times) in a "travel light" fashion as Kindle is, but I will not buy an iPad for that. With the proprietary OS, it does not run flash and it does not work with many sites. Keep in mind that if your primary objective is navigate on the web, Kindle is for sure the wrong choice. Anyway, in my personal opinion, iPad is probably not the right one also. You can have a lot of magazines with Zinio - that can run in your PC or laptop (Zinio can also run on iPad). I always read my Harvard Business Review magazine on my laptop with no problem. Of coure, I also want to have the mobility that iPad and Kindle have. But because iPad is mono-task and has a proprietary OS that does not run flash, I will wait for the Eee Pad (from Asus) or any other open Tablet. Meanwhile, I will keep reading my magazines using Zinio on my laptop.
2) The pages on Kindle could turn faster. Anyway, this is not a big deal.
3) Contrast can be improved - at least the background should be more white and not so gray.
All in all, I am pretty happy with my Kindle DX and I am pretty sure it is the right choice for anyone who has the primary objective of reading books and not navigate on the web.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

I liked the concept n bought this product even it is priced too much.
Response is too slow . you ll be sick of reading.
PDF: the claim that it reads pdf is fake. It don't read all formats and page formatting is lousy. no search on pdf. n if u turn kindle pdf will not align. Display with pdf is dull you cant read.
Folders: there is no feature to organize the books . It just flattens everything. It is simply designed by fools :).
It switches on when you connect to usb. If you forget to switch off it will discarge. The USB cable is very cheap quality . It all became powder.
It is always better to buy ipad which is far better with touch screen. Ipad will anyway kill kindle. Amazon is simply marketing this useless product with fake videos.
There are many things which can be done with simple programming which amazon is not used to :P they should rather stick to selling stuff not to design.

I have heard many customers say that the kindle is just in black and white that is true but I fined to serve my purpose and that is to read a good book. I like the fact if you are left handed which I am not you still can turn it upside down and have the letters on top and still be able to read. Now I can download my PDF so that I don't have to sit at the computer all day or use all of my ink to print them out. It was worth the money considering the ink I use to use for online college and they don't always send you a book sometimes you have to download them now I can.

There are so many books I wanted to read but because they were out of print or stock I thought I'd never get the chance to read them....wrong!! I was surprised by my husband and kids with my Kindle DX.
And all I can say is I Love...Love...Love my kindle. I had been lucky enough to get one because they are pricey, my husband wanted to buy the IPAD. But from everything I read the Kindle DX was for me. I just wanted to read inside, outside or down at the lake. My daughter just loves it too. Don't get me wrong ~ I love the feel of a book in my hand or spending the afternoon in the bookstore with my kids. But I have every intention of buying one for my daughter. We have been sharing mine and it's getting old trying to get it away from her ~ she's 16 and she's got that Kindle in a death grip. It was my Mother's Day, Birthday and Anniversary present. I've gotten a few .99 books and they are great as well as some of the more expensive ones. I figure it will have paid for itself in about a year in a half. You won't be disappointed*

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation Right now
I have a kindle DX especially for studying for my cisco certifications. Reading most from PDF. So, pdf zoom for me was ... it sucks. Compared to book, i only needed something between 10-15% zoom, but this is not possible. So, zoom is useless without the ability to manually choose the zoom. Maybe U can use it for a scheme or graph, nothing more. Once per week. Nobody will read using left-right joystick all the time.
Also collections are an important think. They are good BUT there is no possibility for mass sort and move, especially using the computer. For example, when I transfer 100 files to my kindle (I make my books smaller, in chapters, and read one or two per day), I want them already in collections, something like folders. We are used with folders. Amazon will never reinvent the computer folders, making them software folders, people will not understand this.
What would be great for me also ? Time counter, to know how much time I used to read every book, how much time I have spend reading from a special collection, an updated clock somewhere in a corner. I study during night time, but next day I have to go to work also. Always using an external watch.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Lowest Price Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation
I am really pleased with my Kindle DX. I got it about a year ago and I purchase between three and five books per week on it. I carry it with me just about everywhere I go. When I'm in my car or cooking or doing the dishes it reads to me.
It fell off the nightstand and broke about three months ago and I seriously wanted to cry. Thank goodness my warranty covered it and they sent me a new one, it arrived about two days later at no cost to me.
I also purchased a Mighty Bright Light for it but my dog ate it and I have yet to replace it. I also have the standard leather cover that comes with it. I bent the cover by opening the wrong side once but a pair of pliers fixed it and I haven't done it since. I've had it freeze up probably three or four times but holding the power button for several seconds to shut it down has worked every time.
I am overall extremely happy with my Kindle DX. My mother has a Sony Reader and they just don't compare, in my opinion. For convenience alone I choose the Kindle every time. I read a lot. In fact my brother said just yesterday that all I ever do is read. Some people grumble about the cost of books on Kindle as if they should be cheaper because they're digital and not something you can hold in your hand or pass around to your friends. But if you purchased a book, add in shipping and handling, then you're paying more than you would for a digital book assuming the digital and print editions are the same price. If someone wants a book so badly they can buy it themselves. I've never been much of a book-sharer. I guess I'm too selfish. I don't even let people hold my Kindle because I would have to club them with something if they dropped it and it broke. I think it's short-sighted to view digital content as something that's less than a paperback or hardback book. It's not so much about the physical object, it's about the ability of the book to transport me to another place or to teach me something. I can carry my library in my backpack instead of having teetering stacks of books all over my house.
I would highly recommend this product to people who are voracious readers. If you read a book a month then you probably shouldn't purchase one. Another a plus is at a huge number of classics that are free on the Kindle. I just downloaded the Brother's Grimm Household Tales today. I started reading a few serialized novels because the first in the set were free.
I have a few scratches on my Kindle DX and I'd like to get a screen protector but I've heard that the screen can become severely damaged if you use one and I don't really want to chance it because I honestly don't know what I'd do without my Kindle. I do read it that much. So much so that I hardly even watch television anymore.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Low Price Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation
Well you lost any brand loyalty from myself for the kindle. The DX screen size looks excellent for reading PDFs, but the way you blame customers for mistakes is disgusting. I am in Australia and would hate to imagine how to handle a return for a faulty Kindle. I bought the Kobo reader from Boarders, it has a much smaller screen unfortunately, got it out of the box and after a few hours the screen was faulty, took it back and Boarders apologized and gave us a new one. Also have a friend who bought the Ipad, it was faulty and he returned it and they gave a new one, with no questions.
The partial refunds, credits and other BS you offer disgusts me, I am going to avoid Amazon from now on!Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.

Save Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation
I like this Kindle DX. I have also the original version Kindle. I have used my original Kindle and have enjoyed it. I enjoyed the fact that on both of the Kindles I can down-load books and some other items by a free wireless conection. I also like both Kindles because I can do some other free wireless internet web browsing like Google or Wikipedia. The Kindle DX has a larger screen, text-to-speech, and other features that the original Kindle does not have. But I am still going to keep my original Kindle as back-up. The original Kindle has an SD card slot and I could replace its battery (if Amazon still sells batteries for the original Kindle). Kindle DX does not have a SD card slot, but according to Amazon they could hold about 3500 items in the reader device. If any thing happens to the Kindle DX batteries, I would have to send my Kindle DX back to Amazon to get them replaced. I think that I will always enjoy my Kindle DX as I have with my original Kindle. That is why I think Amazon-Kindle is great.Get more detail about Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally – Latest Generation.
